Power & Light District makes dress code more... →
Congratulations to all of those who stood up against the dress code in P&L. Although I don’t don’t believe there should be a dress code at all, this is a great first step. UPDATE: I almost missed this very fascinating quote in the article! The more lenient dress code comes before a peak season that brings several major African-American conventions to downtown.

Covington announces his principal picks  →
Earlier this year, Kansas City Missouri School District Superintendent, John Convington, pink-slipped every single Principle in the district. All of them, if they wanted their job back, would have to reapply! It seems he’s made up his mind. All but four schools have been confirmed to have principles.  This and the school district right-sizing is part of a ambitious effort to turn-around a...

Is a team coming to the Sprint Center, or what!?
So they say the Sprint Center doesn’t have an anchor tenant because it can’t find a local buyer. Is it that KC doesn’t have enough rich folks? I wouldn’t say that. But the city has had issues in finding buyers for our existing professional sports teams. Both The Royals and The Chiefs are owned by entities outside of Kansas City. My initial reaction to the video was,...

IS IT GAME OVER FOR ATLANTA? →
I almost considered moving to ATL a few years back to start a business but backed out. It seems as though, just from my gut feeling alone, that opportunity in this great american city is dwindling. I’d rather be a big fish in a small pond then a small fish in a big pond ANY day.

Here Comes the Neighborhood →
Easily one of the best analyses of demographic demand trends in regards to cities I’ve seen in recent days. Highlighting the demand for more dense, walkable areas — in contrast to more suburban developments — the author encourages the need for more transit options. He also flirts with the idea that, if trends continue the way that they are, the burbs could become the future slums...

[Photos] Troost Fest 2010 →
Yeah, I’m super mad I missed this for the second year in a row. Seemed like it was a lot of fun. The night before there were a gathering of folks watching Avatar outdoors on a blank portion of the Isis Theater mural (31st & Troost). Awesome Idea that I need to see more of.

KC Zoo celebrates a huge victory | Midwest Voices →
Easily one of Kansas City’s greatest assets, the zoo is in dire need of good news. Over the past decade huge budget cuts have undermined any opportunity to improve. Finally, some good news on this front.  It’s interesting. Ironically, from what I hear from a lot of people they don’t even bother going to the KC Zoo. Apparently because Omaha, Nebraska’s is better!...

Show Me Pride festival moved →
Kansas City officials have found a new location for Show Me Pride, an annual gay pride festival. This year’s pride festival week will be held from May 31 to June 6 at Berkley Riverfront Park. Read more: http://bit.ly/9VrexG I think we should have more events there in the first place. The river is one of the most under-valued assets this city has. Quitting for now...
A lot is going on at this point in my life. As an upcoming artist, I’ve realized that so much of playing this game is about the hustle and bustle. I’m about knee deep in obligations and I don’t think I want to play this game anymore. I feel so alone in all of this and I just can’t take it anymore.  I know that I’ve joked about this before. But you know what they say;...

Neighbors try to erase one of KC’s dividing lines  →
Out of my favorite neighborhoods in Kansas City, the Northeast ranks way up there. I’d like to live there one day. But just as every neighborhood, there certain geographical markers that divide different walks of life. Any effort to blur those lines is commendable in my book.

Whoa, hold up! Did they FIND the Waldo Rapist!?!?
Jackson County prosecutors filed 15 charges this afternoon against the man suspected in the recent Waldo-area rapes — all of them involving four unsolved rapes from 1983 and 1984. (Source: KC Star) Not only that but apparently he got his a$$ beat this morning by a fellow inmate! The investigation is still open, however. More to come, folks.
