KC Media, the Stigmatization of Black Males and the Downfall of Tony’s Kansas City

I’ve largely avoided the topic of the supposed “Waldo Rapist”. I’ve done so mainly because the local media and local blogs are doing a heck-of-a job by themselves. In fact, I think they’re doing too good of a job. It’s known that crimes such as this and others happen quite often in many other parts of Kansas City. Although it’s sad to see that these young ladies are being violated, it’s a shame that they are the only one’s who are being patronized.
A woman not to long ago, nine months pregnant, was shot in the head while waiting outside of an apartment on Armour BLVD a couple blocks east of troost. Why was that not a big deal? Why did the media cover that in passive blurbs while a continual uproar is being facilitated and groomed by local newsies? My angst with the local media, especially those in Television, only grows stronger and they consistently stigmatize Black men all across the metro, incubate hatred and celebrate fear.
My fear is that this occurrence is only time this city cares about violence. It becomes increasingly evident that Black v. Black violent crimes are undermined and remain outstanding — perhaps because of their frequency — while Black v. White crimes are investigated and typically concluded.
The Kansas City media has created an anti-crime movement. We all know that crime is nothing new in Kansas City but since when has such a movement been as massive when it comes to Black v. Black crimes? Perhaps if this were facilitated the crime in this city would be greatly reduced.
We can only pray that an innocent Black man will not be jailed, attacked or murdered in order to meet the demand of catching this supposed “rapist”. It’s happened before.
My message are to all forces in the media that have a voice: Please change the way you are broadcasting your message. For too long we’ve allowed our media coverage to divide the city. Too much focus on crime. When good news is brought up, it’s usually treated as a piece of candy — exciting for the five seconds it’s in your mouth.
Then there are independent bloggers like Tony’s Kansas City who on the surface seem to be an analytical voice amongst the hoopla of the Waldo Rapist, yet get’s angry when other larger established institutions ignore his often times ignorant fact-less rantings. Need we not mention the often times misogynistic posts of revealing pictures of young, semi-nude, daintily clad women that are interwoven into the utterly useless recycling of supposed news. Kansas City doesn’t need another failed-journalist who parades around ridiculing other REAL Journalist — especially the good ones like The Pitch’s Nadia Plfaum. )
(Read his post: Because I want to have sex with Nadia Pflaum AND I despise local hip-hop posers)
The media is one of the most powerful forces. How long will Black males be undervalued in society yet valued and utilized for ratings? I believe a revolution is in order. Join me.
