Lupe Fiasco Can Kiss My A$$
God, rappers have some of the strangest personalities. Lupe’s consistent cynicism has finally driven me off the cliff in terms of my tolerance of it. I will say, however, that I DO respect him artistically.
Lupe, who’s been popular for about three years - despite being in the game for ten - had this to say: “I feel like hip-hop is coming to sort of a..i dare say…an end???…(no pun intended). It’s not the same energy…hasn’t been for a long time…just a bunch of nothing out there…take it how u may…I hope the new vanguard proves me wrong and brings back the day of substance minus the webcam video to announce its return.”
My instant reaction was a mumbled “F*CK YOU” but upon reflection I feel as though that interjection doesn’t exactly explain how I feel.
LupEND is Lupe’s third and “final” album. It comes out this year. Now, the reason for him not creating anymore solo albums is explained by his current apathy and foreseen fatigue towards rap music.
Trusting a man who is sick of making music isn’t wise. . It is an incredibly prideful statement to assume that the millions of future rappers will have no talent and have nothing to speak about. How dare a guy who is a rookie in the game have such audacity? Just because HE is “retiring”, the game should NOT. We should not trust a rapper who recently said he likes what Souja Boi is doing. How could you call upcoming cats like, Saigon, Papoose, Jay Electronica, Blu, Black Milk etc an END.
We shouldn’t give in to this idiotic non-sense. Rappers, especially these rookies, need to keep their mouths shut. Lupe behind the mic emits the air of an intelligent, wise and resilient young emcee, but his personality tragically pollutes that. He seems to be one of those cats who just wants to counter EVERY single thing that anyone thinks - just for the hell of it.
The game doesn’t need that though. What the game needs is quality music and not this anger provoking bull.
In the end, I’m glad Lupe is retiring. He needs to shut up and take his Steve Urkle-esque, last to get picked for the team, Tony Hawk playing behind back to the half-pipe or Go-Go-Gadget flow into reality before he trips over his tongue.
