thePhantom* 2011: Year in review
2011 was a good year for me: I was part of the Sly James campaign and saw him WIN!

This was easily one of my proudest moments of 2011:
I got to perform at his watch party.
My ode to UMKC, “Gold & Blue” went viral overnight. (now they play the song at every game).
The Phantastics, my funky ass band, was officially formed.
I landed a sponsorship with Distinguished Cravat:
I was nominated for a Pitch Award (I lost gracefully to Stik Figa).

I dropped The Fountain of Youth and collaborated with a host of my local favorites: CES CRU, Sean Hunt + More.
TFOY made Demencha Magazines “Favorite melting pot record of 2011.
I was Ink Magazine ”hottest reader“…

and made the cover of KC Magazines “Sexy Single 2011” issue.

I officially made my debut as a DJ and further explored the world of Dance music. I was approach by two labels (which I turned down).
Upon reflection, this year has probably been my best so far as far as my musical career. Needless to say, it’s time to reach even higher in 2012 with #Synesthesia.

By thePhantom:
Ladies and gentlemen, the day you and I have been waiting for has finally arrived! My best album to date, The Fountain of Youth, is finally out for your consumption:

Purchase: http://bit.ly/pVt5QG
I would even go so far to say that this is my most anticipated album to date. With the Pitch Award Nomination for “Best Hip-Hop Act”, a lot of people are watching to see what this “Phantom thing” really is. I’m excited to say that we are in the forefront of a new positive direction that transcends music.
We are a tribe. To be even more correct, we are a PHANTASTIC tribe! We are diverse yet united by community in good music.
I’m excited for the future. No, I’m excited for OUR future because I can’t do this alone. Please share this album with anyone you want, anyone you see or anyone you know. There is power in numbers! There is power in music! There is power in us.
Love,
thePhantom*-

Sorry, I can’t please everyone!
By thePhantom*:
As we draw near to the release of The Fountain of Youth I wanted to share some light on a couple different issues and ideas. You all have been very verbal about your support of the album. I’ve said all along that thePhantom* is much bigger than one man and this proves it. Below are some examples of things that Phanatics have wanted done and what I’ve done in response.
TO FONT OR NOT TO FONT?
Some time ago when I first posted the album artwork for The Fountain of Youth everyone loved it! In fact, I’d never seen such a positive response from any of my album covers.

Only one thing irked a good number of Phanatics and was the font. Some said it didn’t suit the artwork well, others said it was too hard to see. Regardless, there was a sense that there were a good amount of folks that just didn’t like the font but loved everything else.
I’ll have to admit that originally I was going to use my go to font Helvetica. Lucid, the designer of the artwork, sent me a version with the Helvetica and I didn’t like it. I decided the cursive font may be a better fit but even then I wasn’t entirely pleased. All this to say that you all were thinking what I was thinking.
So because of that we have officially dropped the font and title from the album artwork. It looks something like this:

Ahhh much better!
SHOULD MY ALBUM TITLE BE CHANGED FROM THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH TO THE PHOUNTAIN OF YOUTH?
Phanatics on Facebook had suggested the idea of changing my album title to look more similar to my rap name. I and many others liked the idea. Some didn’t. I took a poll and discovered that the majority of people who voted - although it was a slim majority — liked the idea of changing the name.

Unfortunately, since the album comes out in about two weeks, it’s a little too late for me to change the title. I’m sorry! What I have done is change the name of the songs on the album that include an “f” to a “ph”. So for instance, there is a song on the album called “Beautiful Day”. It is now “Beautiphul Day”.
I love you all and I want you to know that I value your opinion! Forward March!!!

Just met with my manager…
My manager, Kyle James, and I met tonight over a nice bottle of red wine to discuss details about the upcoming album release show.
Very productive meeting! We talked about making the show more of an experience rather than a show. This experience must touch every sense and be a well oiled machine. No gaps. No pauses. No flaws.
The pressure is on. The uptown holds a considerable amount of people and we have to not only make sure that we fill the space, we have to make sure that every dollar spent is worthwhile.
Unfortunately, we weren’t able to meet with the Angryape crew tonight as Ashley was out of town and Adam had a prior obligation, but we’ll meet with them on Monday to discuss a name for the event.
Also discussed tonight was the possibility of donating a portion of the proceeds to Big Brothers Big Sisters. We realize that this event could be used as a catalyst to help a non-profit organization create positive avenues for children and teens.
We’ll meet tomorrow to continue our discussion but needless to say, we’ll have to get the ball rolling because we’ve got just over a month to create this monster!
Stay tuned…
The Fountain of Youth comes out on July 12th. Be sure to download thePhantom*’s first single, Deep Down, featuring NYC Jazz singer, Melissa Backstrom from iTunes now!: http://bit.ly/itPyrA
Preparing for The Fountain of Youth Album release Party
We’re just under a month to go until my most anticipated album to date, The Fountain of Youth, drops on July 12th! As you know from Decemeber’s The Night thePhantom* Stole Christmas album release party at Method, I know how to get down and have a good time. Check out the pix below to see how we packed a 2,000 sq. ft space with over 300 people. Needless to say, the fire marshal and the police showed up (which was my goal!).
Check out the pictures:
This time we’re expecting double the amount of people so we’re hosting out release party at the Uptown Theater!
This go we’ve teamed up with our newest sponsor Angryapes Clothing who will also be celebrating their one year anniversary!!!

More details soon. We promise! Thank you for the continued support of thePhantom*!

[HERE FIRST] COMMON COMING TO KC OCT. 7TH *UPDATED*

Yes, you heard it right. My UMKC connect has informed me that Common will be in the building, not this but NEXT, Thursday at UMKC. It will be at the BRAND NEW STUDENT UNION (which has the flyest rooftop in town [sorry Jones])!

Only a couple problems. I don’t know if the concert is open to the public. It’s free for UMKC students but doesn’t mention non-students.
ALSOOOOO, the official Lebron James party, which I will be making an appearance at, is the same night. I’m investigating a way to clone myself right now.
Here are details:
“Common Sense, Common Knowledge”
Student Union Theater- Doors Open at 7pm *BRING YOUR STUDENT ID*
Tickets available at the Office of Student Invovement in the Student Union Room 320
1 ticket per student
Tickets are FREE, but limited
any questions call 816-235-1032
*UPDATE*
So I’ve received word that the show is NOT open to the public BUT they are suggesting that non-students that want to attend show up anyway on the day of the show. They say if there are any tickets left over, non-students will be able to attend…I believe for free (don’t quote me, however).

For Two Minutes, Tony of Tony’s Kansas City and I Have Made Amends :)
You may know my history with the man. But in greater news, he’s reported something good for once! Last week I threw a party for KC mayoral candidate, Sly James at Method.

So Tony just happened to be in Method. the next day and saw a sign supporting Sly and had some kind words to say about Sly! Way to go Tony.
